Full Job Description

Quality is our foundation at the Nelson and Colne College Group and academic excellence is in our DNA. Our performance on Overall Achievement, GCSE high grades, A Level progress and destinations positions us as one of the highest performing colleges in the country. As we look to build on the College Group's academic success and excellence, an exciting new opportunity has become available for a Vice Principal - Quality. It goes without saying, given our track record, that we are looking for an exceptional individual to lead Quality across the College Group. The successful candidate will be a dynamic leader who is excited by the values of the college and passionate about ensuring all our students, whatever their backgrounds, can excel in their learning, be successful and move onto future careers and chosen next steps. Taking the strategic lead for quality across the Group through the Quality Strategy, the Vice Principal - Quality will report directly to the Principal and CEO,
championing ambition and maintaining high expectations and excellence for all our learners.

This is an exciting time to join Nelson and Colne College Group as we are just in the process of launching our new vision to 2030, supported by a new strategic plan. As part of our new future, we are looking to significantly raise the profile of our technical education offer, invest in new facilities and raise local and regional awareness of the market leading brand benefits of our academic offer. We also want to work as a trusted partner to support Lancashire's devolution journey and our unique pan-Lancashire adult offer positions us well to play an important role in helping the county achieve its economic potential. Underpinning the ambitions outlined in the new strategic plan is an ongoing commitment to the highest quality of teaching, learning and assessment, across all provision types and curriculum facing support areas of the College Group.

Key to success in this role will be a relentless ambition for the highest possible academic and technical education standards, as well as experience of managing quality systems and using these to drive improvements in a college setting. Experience of making a significant and successful contribution to external quality assurance visits will also be key, alongside which will sit an ability to take a strategic approach to leadership in an FE setting and strong analytical skills, including the ability to draw judgements from the analysis of complex data sets.

The successful candidate will be required to work across the three College sites.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Providing strategic leadership in quality, maintaining high expectations and ambition to ensure the continuous improvement of the learner experience.

  • Working collaboratively with the Vice Principals Curriculum to play a vital role in leading strategic, targeted support and impactful interventions to ensure quality of provision across the College Group.

  • Robustly monitoring the quality of Strategic and Divisional QIPs, ensuring they are targeted, measurable and lead to better outcomes

  • Act as lead executive member for the Board of Curriculum and Standards Committee.

You should hold a degree in a relevant subject area, alongside a recognised teaching qualification.

  • Significant experience in managing quality systems and implementing new systems to drive improvements in a college setting.

  • Experience of analysing and applying data sets to improve performance.

  • Successful experience of leading high performing teams and driving improvements through quality improvement and quality assurance.

  • Recent Ofsted training

Nelson and Colne College Group is made up of a family of colleges - Nelson & Colne College, Lancashire Adult Learning and Accrington & Rossendale College. Our College Group is now the only Further Education college in Lancashire to be graded as 'Outstanding' under the new Ofsted inspection framework.

  • Together the Group forms a Sixth Form, Skills and Technology Centre, University Centre, Employer Training and Adult Learning Provider delivering exceptional teaching and learning to all ages and at all levels.

Nelson and Colne College has a national reputation for educational success that generations of families have benefited from. We pride ourselves on our individual approach to learning, where students receive outstanding teaching and support, extensive extracurricular opportunities and fantastic facilities.

  • An opportunity to be part of a supportive and collaborative leadership team, with access to leadership development opportunities.

  • Eligibility to join the Local Government / Teachers' Pension Scheme.

  • Generous annual leave allowance including a two-week closure over the Christmas period.

  • A range of health and wellbeing benefits and support.

  • Staff recognition scheme, including long service awards.

  • Fantastic family friendly policies.

  • Free on-site parking on all College sites.
