Full Job Description

As our Structural Analysis Engineer, your role will include working with customers, suppliers, our leadership team, engineers and project managers.,

  • Overall responsibility for the structural integrity of spacecraft under your direct supervision

  • Correctly interpreting structural requirements from launch authorities and standards agencies

  • Preparing Finite Element Models (FEMs) and performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

  • Performing structural optimization activities

  • Participation in peer review meetings

  • Participation in RnD activities

  • Support mechanical test campaigns

    You will have experience in a broad range of mechanical engineering tasks including structural design and analysis, payload analysis as well as a strong understanding of testing and validation best practices. Working with our experienced team of Structural, Thermal and CAD Engineers, you will guide them where necessary to help ensure the team deliver high performing solutions for space.


  • Experience in most of the following areas is required:
  • Familiarity with interpreting the requirements presented in launch vehicle user manuals. Particularly with inertial loading, vibration theory (harmonic and random), shock, acoustics.

  • Familiarity with relevant engineering technical standards, particularly from ECSS and NASA.

  • Strong understanding of methods and approaches for spacecraft level mechanical analysis and testing.

  • Good understanding of the impact of design decisions at the spacecraft and mission level.

  • Strong understanding of structural mechanics.

  • Strong understanding of vibration theory.

  • Understanding of fastener mechanics and failure modes.

  • Appreciation of novel structural materials, such as composites and have knowledge on the appropriate methods one could use to analyze and test these structural members.

  • Appreciation of micro-vibration.

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project);

  • Excellent communicator, both written and verbal;

  • Confident working in project delivery and bid teams.

  • Ability to work closely with, and interpret the outputs of analysis engineers (FEA) to understand the capabilities of the design.

  • Experience with a FEM package, preferably NASTRAN / FEMAP.


  • What will you be doing here?

    This is an exciting role which will suit an enthusiastic, self-starting individual who is happy to work on a range of activities from technical studies to small spacecraft systems and subsystems. You will be comfortable working as part of a team delivering projects to a variety of customers including institutional, academic and commercial organisations. The successful individual will be able to independently manage their priorities to support others where necessary and be comfortable with a fast-paced environment. It will require someone who takes pride in their work, and can present professionally to clients, suppliers, colleagues and partners.

    The role requires some knowledge and experience of designing, developing, building and testing satellite structures, a willingness to learn and the ability to work with others to identify and resolve technical issues.

    You will be actively encouraged to maintain a current interest in space industry developments and are expected to pro-actively identify business/technology promotion opportunities.
