Full Job Description

You will play a crucial role in managing, maintaining, and optimising our SQL database systems across the group, ensuring the availability, security, and performance of the database systems. The role will consist of both proactive & reactive maintenance or development of the instances as required, you will effectively manage large volumes of data, providing a seamless flow of information throughout the company and driving insights to support critical business decisions.,

  • Managing database servers, MS-SQL, and related Windows technologies, to ensure data integrity and efficient data access.

  • Developing and optimising SQL queries and scripts to efficiently extract, transform, and load data.

  • Monitoring and optimising SQL Server performance, including query optimisation and index tuning.

  • Designing and implementing database maintenance plans, including database consistency checks, index rebuilds, and statistics updates.

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and analyse business requirements.

  • Creating and maintaining documentation, including data dictionaries and database architecture diagrams.

  • Monitoring database performance and proactively identifying and resolving issues.

  • Reviewing existing queries and writing to gain performance advantages where possible.

  • Develop, implement and optimize stored procedures and functions using T-SQL

  • Conducting data analysis to provide insights and support decision-making processes.

  • Supporting data migration and integration projects, ensuring data quality and consistency.

  • Staying current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in database management and administration.

    Proven experience working in a similar role, and experience with SQL server 2016 and 2019.

  • Strong T-SQL Development experience

  • Ability to review existing code and rework where performance issues are discovered.

  • SQL SSRS, SQL SSAS and SQL SSIS.

  • Working knowledge and experience with an ERP system.

  • Previous experience with Sage200 preferred.

  • Extensive experience of database management in high throughput environments & databases of a large size (10's of TB's).

  • Experience of archiving SQL data, (cold and warm).

  • Proficiency in SQL Server performance monitoring and optimisation, including query optimisation and index tuning.

  • Experience with high availability and database clustering (with Always on Availability Groups).

  • Experience with SQL Replication.

  • Awareness of operating within the parameters of an ITIL infrastructure environment and adhering to processes such a raising a Change Request (CR) and accurately documenting your work.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues quickly and effectively.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MSCA) certification in SQL Server desirable.

  • Experience supporting Internet Information Services (IIS) and working knowledge of other database technologies advantageous.
