Full Job Description

  • The role is accountable for the project planning function across our assets in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in support to the Africa Project Controls Lead, as well as assisting PMO (Project Management Office) and the Regional Planning Manager.

  • Ensure all procurement estimates and capital projects (Minor, Intermediate and Major projects) are fully compliant under the CMF for cost estimation methodologies including supporting Project Managers developing basis for cost estimating and cost controls from conceptual estimates to definitive estimates for projects in execution.

  • Integration between the cost estimate (and associated escalation models), quantitative risk assessments, procurement estimates, the control budget and master schedule.

  • Benchmarking data for project validation and assurance.

  • Update, implement and own cost estimation methodology in line with the CMF, incorporating lessons learned into the estimates, including relevant initiatives to simplify processes, systems and structures for all Copper Regions and Sites in line with the CMF standard global approach.

  • Manage and collect best practices for cost estimation and provide guidance to Project teams on their implementation, including interaction and coordination with Project Managers and the respective Regional Project Services Manager.

  • Create and maintain overall cost estimate database for copper capital projects including cost breakdown structure (CBS) and work breakdown structure (WBS). Enable the conversion of cost estimates into projects' control budgets.

  • Conduct, as directed, detailed project cost estimation as part of Independent Peer Reviews (IPRs) and separately from stage gate assurance across projects globally. In addition, provide inputs and participate into the Post Investment Review (PIR) of projects analysing the causes of cost deviations and help document lessons learned., Control Elements

    Strong understanding, management and knowledge of various cost estimation, planning and quantity surveying methods including usage of relevant IT systems and tools e.g. BIM software, Oracle Primavera 6, MS Project, Ecosys, Prism (Contruent) and others.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting and budgeting principles and requirements.

  • Knowledge of global project and construction market in terms of contractors, suppliers, and cost management.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to remain objective and independent in a collaborative manner coordinating cross-functional teams (third parties, Project Services, IT, Finance, Supply/Procurement, Projects, Operations and Technology teams).

  • Strong leadership and relationship building skills both including internal and external stakeholders.

  • Semi-autonomous, self-motivated, highly proactive, and resilient attitude.

  • Business administration, facilitation, analytical, leadership/ management and negotiation capabilities.

  • Commercial and financial acumen., Tertiary Qualifications - Engineering, Construction management, Project management and/or related disciplines.

  • 10+ years of estimating experience in large-scale and complex projects, including but not limited to Civil, Structural and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Piping).

  • 5+ years' experience in a similar role within the resources or petrochemical industry. Experience within mining and/or EPC/EPCM companies will be a plus.

  • Working knowledge of CCS is preferred, along with experience working with a variety of cost estimating tools.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, influencing and communication skills across all levels of the organization.

  • Experience working in Africa would be advantageous.

  • English language skills. French would be advantageous.

  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
