Full Job Description

  • Preparation of practical experiments for students

  • Administration as required to support the department

  • Liaising with the Head of Science regarding the resources budget and keeping track of spending

  • Setting up IT equipment (checking that they work first time)

  • Clearing and cleaning of used equipment

  • Maintenance of equipment and the laboratory facilities

  • Trialling and modifying new experiments

  • Making new equipment

  • Checking stock levels & ordering of equipment, chemicals, books, stationery and any other materials required by science staff

  • Arranging for maintenance and repair of equipment

  • Organising the recording of teaching and assessment material

  • Reproducing and distributing lesson material

  • Keeping Health & Safety information up to date

  • Organising display work

  • Helping teaching staff with practical work in lessons when required

  • Consultation & discussion with other staff members

  • Other reasonable requests from Head of Science and Science Teachers

    Experience as a Science Technician in Schools is desirable

  • A Science or Engineering background would be advantageous

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a fast paced environment

  • A methodical, skilled planner

  • Excellent organisation and communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • High levels of initiative

  • Enjoys working in a challenging role and the ability to cope with time and other pressures

  • Be polite, professional and friendly at all times with pupils and colleagues.

  • Be able work as part of a team

  • Be prepared to assist colleagues in a willing and positive manner including assisting with other duties as required

  • Be flexible, reliable, punctual and trustworthy

    Hours: Part time role, 22.5 hours per week, to fit around the requirements of the department Term time only, 34 weeks
