Full Job Description

The purpose of this role will be to carry out independent research on the development and examination of many-body models. The person appointed will be expected to apply and develop analytical and numerical methods for exploring spin-phonon coupled dynamics, will be responsible for writing up their work for publication, and will have the opportunity to use their skills, experiences, and creativity to identify new areas for research, and extend their research portfolio.,

  • To develop many-body spin-phonon coupled models of Rydberg ions confined in electric traps of different dimensions.

  • To apply and develop analytical and numerical methods for exploring strongly correlated dynamics and stationary states of the spin-phonon coupled models.

  • To produce written reports and oral presentations to communicate the results to the line manager, internal and external collaborators, and for publication.

  • To analyse and interpret data and results; to bring new insights to the research area.

  • To identify opportunities and assist in writing research grant applications.

  • To help co-ordinate collaborations with existing research partners, form new collaborative relationships and identify further opportunities for collaboration.

  • To co-ordinate the operational aspect of research, for example, arranging meetings.

  • To provide support, guidance and supervision to other staff, where appropriate in own areas of expertise.

+ Well-honed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information with clarity.

  • + Ability to build relationships and collaborate with others, both internally and externally.
    + Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge and experience

  • + Strong background in theoretical physics
    + Background in atom-light interactions
+ Strong track record in analytical and/or numerical skills in treating quantum many-body systems
  • Qualifications, certification and training (relevant to role)

  • + BSc/MPhys Degree in Physics
+ PhD in Physics related to Quantum Simulation of many-body dynamics with Rydberg interactions
