Military Provost Guard Service (MPGS

The Military Provost Guard Service (MPGS) provides professional soldiers to meet armed security requirements at Royal Navy, Army, RAF and other MOD bases in Great Britain. Our primary role is to counter the terrorist threat posed to military bases in Great Britain. Our duties include: - Controlling entry and exit to a site. - Managing control room operations and ensuring all visitors are dealt with efficiently. - Patrolling site perimeters and taking necessary action to preserve perimeter security. - Security incident management, such as suspicious packages, bomb threats, protests, etc. - Military Working Dog services at some sites. The MPGS is part of the Provost Branch of the Adjutant General's Corps and is under the direction of Provost Marshal (Army), who is the Director and Head of Service. Our units are formed under the command of their respective Head of Establishment, with Provost Marshal (Army) maintaining technical standards through annual inspections. Each MPGS unit has a
structured rank system that provides opportunity for promotion to Senior Non-Commissioned Officer, and Warrant Officer Level 2 rank at some sites. Given the size of the MPGS, a number of Warrant Officer Level 1 opportunities exist across the country. Promotion is based on merit and uses the same system of annual performance appraisal in line with the current Tri-Service guidance for appraisal reporting. Stationed at over 100 sites, we have our own Military Local Service Contract which allows soldiers to choose where they wish to serve, providing there is a vacancy. MPGS & You: Pay: MPGS soldiers receive rates of pay in accordance with JSP 754, Ch 4, Sect 9 and Service Personnel Policy Directed Pay Letters. All ex-service personnel on re-enlistment into the MPGS will be granted a maximum of 3 years antedated seniority which will allow them to enter the NEM structure at OR2-5 (£24,238.80). Deployment: Unlike the rest of the Armed Forces, you serve at a unit of your choice and your
movement is restricted to a 30 mile radius of that unit. You can opt to serve at this unit for the duration of your MPGS career, or choose to move locations. You may, for a maximum of 30 days a year, serve outside of this area. This is mainly for training and personal development courses, but occasionally to provide temporary cover at another site. Commitment: You will re-enlist to the Army on a Military Local Service Engagement (MLSE). This provides you with a three-year renewable contract, by mutual agreement, up to the age of 60 years. Your only commitment is to serve for one year, after which you may give 90 days' notice to discharge. Housing: You will be entitled to take up Service Families Accommodation or Single Soldier Accommodation, at the same rates as any other Regular Serviceperson. However, you are not entitled to Substitute Service Single Accommodation (SSSA). Leave: Up to 30 Days Shift Worker Annual Leave (7.5 weeks off from duty
period). Training: All MPGS Soldiers are trained at the Defence School of Policing and Guarding, Southwick Park, Fareham, Hampshire. The Defence Guarding Specialist Course lasts 5 days, and is designed to provide you with the knowledge and understanding required of a professional armed security guard. The course takes account of your previous service history and, therefore, does not replicate many of the areas of Phase 1 Basic Training, such as foot drill, room inspections and parades. The Security element of the training includes:

• Powers of arrest Powers of search Use of force Patrolling techniques Incident handling Control Room training covers: Notebook instruction Maintenance of Occurrence Books Maintenance of Security Registers Processing Telephone Calls Accounting for Security Equipment Recruits will also undergo unit level training, including: Weapons
  
  Requirements Age: You must be over 18 years and under 57 years of age at re-enlistment. Background: You must have served for at least three years on a previous engagement in any Arm or Service, including Army Reserve, RAF Auxiliary and RN Reserve. Gap Since Leaving Service: You should have less than a 6 year gap for all ranks and up to 10 years gap for those that previously held the rank of substantive Cpl or above from your previous service and re-enlistment (unless you have completed other forms of comparable service). Fitness Eligibility: You must be medically fit and have a minimum discharge Medical Employment Standard of MLD (P). Previous Service Check: Your previous service records will be checked and final authorisation to proceed with the application must be given by the Army Personnel Centre. Please note you will also need to have a full UK driving licence with less than 8 penalty points.
