Full Job Description

  • Demonstrating professionally competent knowledge and understanding of commercial law and practice, the role holder will be able to handle diverse day-to-day work (such as NDAs, standard commercial agreements, standard purchasing agreements) under some supervision, and more complex areas or tasks under a greater level of supervision.

  • The role holder should be able to communicate well and personably with colleagues in all areas and at all levels of the business and demonstrate enthusiasm for 'getting stuck in' to help resolve a range of legal issues and queries.

  • Key duties will include:

  • + Assisting with the provision of timely, accurate, clear, relevant, and pragmatic legal advice to the company.
+ Assisting with the reviewing, drafting, and negotiating various types of commercial contracts, and the day-to-day management of Pragmatic's contracts and related legal documentation.
+ Assisting with the design and implementation of new policies and procedures covering different legal areas.
+ Assisting with education and training for Pragmatic's personnel in relation to legal matters.
+ Assisting with the management of external counsel where appropriate.
  • The role holder will need to stay up to date with changes in applicable laws, regulations, and codes of practice, and undertake such training and career development activities as are agreed with their line-manager from time to time.

At an exciting stage of growth for the company, Pragmatic is seeking a Legal Counsel to join our Legal team. The role holder will be based in Cambridge or Sedgefield / Durham, working at least 3 days per week in the office and the remainder from home on a hybrid basis. The role would suit somebody looking to 'get stuck in' to an in-house role in a fast-paced tech business, with both the variety of work and development opportunities that come with that role. We are looking for an individual who works well in a team and has excellent people skills. This full-time role is focused on commercial contracts (customer, supplier, collaborations) and compliance matters, so particular interest in these areas - and experience of intellectual property law - would be beneficial.

  • We are targeting applicants who are qualified solicitors around NQ-1PQE, but we welcome applications from those who may have different or alternative levels of experience. If you are unsure if you meet the requirements described in this job ad, but are interested in the opportunity, we would love to hear from you!,
  • A degree or postgraduate qualification in law or equivalent

  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales

  • Capable in written and spoken communication, understanding law related jargon and wording.

  • Demonstrable understanding of commercial law and IP and a willingness to further develop knowledge of these and other areas.

  • Desirable
  • Experience of working in-house in the technology sector.

  • Ability to identify and improve legal procedures and ways of working.
