What you will be doing

This is a very exciting new opportunity to join enfinium and the Kelvin team at its infancy throughout the end of construction and see the site through commissioning and into being an operational EfW.

As you will be joining the team prior to the site being operational this gives you a unique advantage to build your own team and help shape the culture of the future workforce.

Kelvin is an energy from waste facility in Sandwell West Midlands in construction, which was granted planning consent in September 2019 and acquired from developer Verus Energy in 2021. When operational, it will divert 395,000 tonnes of non-recyclable household and business waste from landfill or export overseas. Instead, it will use residual waste to generate 44MW (gross) of renewable baseload energy per annum, equivalent to the needs of more than 95,000 UK homes.

As Health, Safety and Environmental Manager you will a tremendous about of value to Kelvin by actively promoting health and safety culture, embedding behavioural safety and as the Environmental Manager you will be responsible for liaising with third parties such as the local council and the Environmental agency.,

  • Manage compliance of the Environmental Management System, including but not limited to conducting internal audits, external facility audits, developing and reviewing policies, procedures and supporting documentation.

  • Positively influences thinking and behaviours so that the site personnel engage, promote and understand the benefits of good HS practice.

  • Manage the delivery and reporting of the environmental monitoring programme for the Waste to Energy facility, ensuring all regulatory and management reports are produced as required under the Environmental Permit and other regulatory reporting requirements.

  • Prepares site monthly, quarterly, and annual Health, Safety and Environmental / (Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance) (ESG) and KPI reporting to the SHEQ Senior Management team ensuring all targets are recorded, monitored, and achieved within regulated timescales.

  • Drive and supports business ownership of Health and Safety reporting, investigations and effective monitoring.

  • Responsible for the compliance of all permit application specifications, including landscape and biodiversity management plans.

  • Assists site Management team in managing a Safe System of Work (SSOW) and Permit To Work (PTW) system for general site safety and safety from the system across the facility

  • Responsible for ensuring all environmental regulatory requirements and monitoring routines for the Waste to energy facility are met, which will include but is not limited to; ESA protocol for IBA, QAL2, QAL3 & AST for CEMS, extractive monitoring and water discharges off site.

  • Preform root cause analysis on incidents and follow up company wide with relevant toolbox talks to ensure the incident/issues are not repeated on Kelvin and the other enfinium assets

  • Review and analyse data daily to identify trends and any potential defects within the plant.

  • Be responsible in ensuring the site is conforming to enfinium standards, policies and procedures as well as regulatory standards (ISO standards)

  • Complete duty of care routine checks, site inspections and audits to ensure the Waste to energy facility meets its statutory obligations.

    Ideally BSc or equivalent, in an Environmental or health and safety subject, or extensive experience gained in a regulatory / supervisory role.

  • Knowledge of boiler water chemistry and treatment regimes is desirable. A keen self-starter with good communication skills and builds constructive and honest working relationships.

  • Demonstrable personal commitment to Quality, Health and Safety and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Ability to understand engineering aspects of an operational Waste to energy facility and evaluate operational requirements against the level of risk in a reasonably practicable manner.

  • Confidentiality and attention to detail are prerequisites for the role.

  • Team player with strong influencing and interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and implement pragmatic solutions to complex problems.

  • Contributes to a positive team spirit and enhances plant morale.

  • Demonstrates respect and sensitivity for cultural/work style and learning style differences.

  • Works ethically and with integrity at all times and requires the same from staff.
