We are looking for a Design for Manufacturing Engineer to work on an innovative automotive project located in our client's site based in Crewe. You will be responsible for supporting the

The purpose of the role is to support the testing activities of reliability programs by providing a specialist product focused capability. The main deliverable is expert customer focussed evaluation of the pre-series reliability vehicles together with the analysis and reporting of functional defects identified during the reliability testing process. The scope of the role also includes defining the technical requirements in terms of vehicles, test profiles and test methodology appropriate to identifying functional product defects in pre-series vehicles.

Function:

· Reporting to the DFM Technical Manager

· Working closely with Manufacturing Feasibility Engineers

· Influencing product concept, style and part design through data analysis

· Supporting recommendations, validation of assembly feasibility for key requirements at gateways/milestones.

· Completion of targeted studies to compare feasibility of different concept proposals for key components/areas, including recommendations for concept selection.

· Delivery of targeted studies to demonstrate requirements for a feasible design (i.e. changes required to product design, assembly sequence, facilities etc. to ensure a feasible assembly condition).

· Validation of R&D drawings.

· Part analysis of new parts within B-release milestone.

· Validation of manufacturing assembly sequence within DELMIA/Tecnomatix documentation

· Validation of the product within DELMIA/Tecnomatix documentation according to vehicle BoM.

· Maintenance of all reports and KPI charts relevant to virtual analysis.

· Support all DFM, R&D design, internal project and concepts reviews meeting

· Supporting the start of all shift meetings to ensure visibility to all teams, · laptop PC & and all software & systems access will be provided by the client, along with any required training for client specific systems & processes.

· Degree in Engineering or equivalent

· Previous proven experience in a similar position

  • Substantial engineering experience in subject matter under consideration (seating and interior)


  • · Ability to influence key stakeholders to gain agreement to implement change and improvement to the product design concept
  • Strong experience of working within manufacturing and manufacturing processes

  • Understanding of trim development process

  • Basic understanding of legislation relating to subject matter

  • Understanding of perceived quality, and virtual perceived quality including vehicle interior quality audit processes

  • Understanding of product tear down and benchmarking

  • Understanding of industrial engineering in relation to DFM

  • Strong understanding of development and application of materials

  • Six Sigma qualified (Green Belt and higher)

  • Ability to demonstrate the use of structured problem solving tools (such as 8D,A3)

  • Knowledge of tolerance analysis, dimensional management, variation simulation analysis, manufacturing simulation (using Delmia or ICIDO)

  • Understanding of gad and rad process

  • Understanding of how to carry out build and analysis of physical properties

  • Experience in application of DFMEA and PFMEA

  • Excellent communication skills combined with the ability to collaborate and influence with others and deliver results through a broad range of stakeholders.

  • Excellent organisational skills and a pragmatic and flexible approach to the role

  • A strong attention to detail combined with the ability to problem solve and deliver tangible improvements within a deadline and to budget

  • Experience of leading and embedding a transformational way of working

  • Project management skills with the ability to effectively plan, organise, prioritise and manage multiple projects in parallel

  • Proactive, resilient in the face of adversity and act as a role
