Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced part-time (4 day) Consultant Psychiatrist who will work at Cygnet Hospital Taunton and provide senior medical cover care to 9 inpatients on Redwood Ward (high dependency complex care service for men with learning disabilities) and 4 inpatients on Peacock Ward (acute service for men).

The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and will oversee and maintain the care of all ward inpatients as required and will also have responsibility for auditing the medical services rendered at the ward and ensuring their good quality in accordance to GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines.

In this role, your expertise will be the driving force for life-changing treatment fully supported by a Specialty Doctor and first-class multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologist and occupational therapist.

And you'll have the opportunity to progress to Medical Director Level through our management schemes.

Main duties of the job

Cygnet Hospital Taunton provides acute inpatient admissions service for men and a specialist inpatient service for men diagnosed with a learning disability.

The post holder will provide psychiatric care to 9 inpatients on Redwood Ward and 4 inpatients on Peacock Ward.

Redwood ward is our 9-bed high dependency complex care service for men with learning disabilities and associated complex needs who may also have behaviours that challenge.

Peacock ward is our 4-bed acute service for men which has the sole aim of working with service users to plan for their discharge out of hospital.

The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and have overall medical responsibility of patient treatment plans, whilst liaising closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Registered Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers etc.)

The post holder will be expected to act as a positive role model, maintaining and demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families, visitors and other staff.
